SUNSHINE BEACH, NOOSA

TERRACE HOUSE

PHOTOGRAPHY

Located on a steep site one street back from the beach, Terrace House responds directly to its coastal context. Organised across three levels, the house is structured around elevating the primary living spaces to fully engage with views toward Sunshine Beach.

Bedrooms and private spaces occupy the lower floors, allowing the uppermost level to open entirely to its surroundings. Full-height sliding doors span both the eastern and western elevations, dissolving the boundary between inside and out. To the east, living spaces frame ocean views; to the west, they open into native treetops, establishing a layered outlook across the site.

Kitchen, dining, and lounge sit between these opposing conditions, creating a living space that feels open on both sides and firmly positioned within its landscape. The arrangement maximises light, ventilation, and visual connection while maintaining a clear internal order.

At the lowest level, a courtyard and pool are integrated into the section of the house, forming a sheltered outdoor space that complements the openness of the level above.

A defined street presence is established through board-formed concrete, grounding the home within its vegetated setting. Above, a low-profile roof appears to float over the heavier base, creating a clear distinction between the grounded structure and the lighter form above.

Materially, the house is shaped by its environment. Board-formed concrete, fibre cement, and aluminium respond to the demands of the steep site and coastal exposure. Internally, whitewashed timber ceilings and linings introduce warmth against the more robust structural elements.
