Gockel Architects is a bespoke design studio dedicated to creating homes that authentically reflect the values of their owners while thoughtfully engaging with their surroundings.
The phrase “subtropical modernism” best summarizes our approach to designing each home. All our projects are situated in the subtropics, where we emphasize a strong response to the unique parameters of each site. The site plays a crucial role in shaping our architectural response.
We adhere to the modernist mantra: “form follows function.” The aesthetics and forms of our designs are derived from functional requirements first. We never impose a material or form on a space; instead, we focus on functional needs to find responses that are both authentic and elegant
We provide comprehensive architectural services, guiding projects from initial planning through fine detailing to the construction phase.
We have been working across South-East Queensland since 2017, directed by David Gockel.
Before founding Gockel Architects, David was a project leader at Shaun Lockyer Architects, a successful firm known for its focus on modernist architecture.
David holds a Master of Architecture, a Bachelor of Design with First Class Honours, and a Bachelor of Business from Queensland University of Technology.
David is a registered architect with the Board of Architects Queensland (Registration No. 5155) and a member of the Australian Institute of Architects.
